CULTURE IN PLACE.

2022.

culturally inspired residence for a retired diplomat.

This home that overlooks Grandfather Mountain was designed for the U.S.’s ambassador to Poland, Marek Magierowski, and his family to retire in. The prevailing themes stem from the Polish dichotomy of privacy and hospitality and their land’s breathtaking natural phenomena. Both immediate and extended family are considered in the design of each space: entry ramp, spacious circulation, and flush thresholds.

Two highlights of the home are the spirits room and the custom patio furniture. The spirits room creates the perfect space for trying and sharing the finest wódka, krupnik, Goldwasser, or Starka. On beautiful evenings, the scenic mountain views can be enjoyed around the fire pits in the surprisingly comfortable chairs inspired by the Poland’s Crooked Forest
